Since installing xp my friend cannot use his cd writer and cannot upgrade the drivers as he is not on the net.I would like to do it for him. Can anyone please give me advice on how to do this and transfer it to him.I am running windows 98. Hope soneone can help.

Search for it on the driver site or at the site of the manufacturer of the cd writer.
Download it and when itīs done choose option save instead of install/open.
If you have a cdwriter: copy it to a cd-r. If not, copy it to a floppy. It itīs too large for a floppy use a filesplitter like īsplitterī. Itīs small and easy to use. You can split the file into parts that fit on a floppy and put them together again on your friends pc.
You can find splitter at nonags.asi.fr or webattack.com if Iīm not mistaken

q314060 maybe he cant use because he didnt uninstall incompatible writing software before upgrading?
make sure he also isnt running incompatible av as well

My new HP 750N did the same thing when I installed Easy CD Creator (formerly from Adaptec). I had installed version 5.01, but I needed version 5.1 for WindowsXP. A visit to the HP website offered several solutions, and the one that worked was a Registry modification.
