Just out of curiousity, I downloaded and ran the driver detective (got the link here from Computing.net on the link called drivers scan). It found 5 drivers that should be updated on my PC. The only way to d/l the latest drivers is to join up for $30.00
Is this one of those false positive setups that are all over the net? Has anyone used this software before and been satisfied with the results? Is it a bogus company?
Thanks

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

If they have told you what drivers they can update, then you can just go to the manufacturers website and download for free.

This is probably not a scam as such, but a service targetted at the technically unsophisticated who will end up paying for something they could get for free.

My second thought is that you do not say you are having any problems with your PC, so why update drivers? It is not guaranteed that a new version is better than the old one.

If you have no problem, leave well alone. If you have a problem, go to the manufacturers site.

I do have a problem where my PC crashes at different random times. I have it set so that it gives me a message when it crashes...USB BugCode. I tried posting it and no-one had any real cure for it. I've also done numerous searches about it using google and other search engines...but no relief in sight.

So the one thing I found thru driver detective was that my Pinnacle AV/DV drivers were corrupt, and I can't get updates for that driver, because Pinnacle won't give support to anyone that has less that Studio 10 installed. I have Studio 8. I've already spent over $300 in pinnacle software and refuse to give them more...it's a never-ending battle.
That was the reason I asked about the Driver Program...is it giving me this info that it can't back up?
That's why I ask if anyone has bought and used the program...thanks

This is a laugh...gateway techs tell me to reformat and re-install XPHome....that's always an easy thing to say...but NOT if you have 100GB of stuff on your PC.
Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

OK, sounds like you might have a driver problem.

www.driverguides.com might have something to help - for free.

If the drivers are just corrupt, it might well work to uninstall and re-install from the original CD.

Sounds like Pinnacle are not good at support; I just picked up Studio 10, but fortunately only paid peanuts for it.

And if I could justmention an old nag that is always coming up on these boards... you sound as if you haven't got a backup of your files, which is really taking a gamble.

Also try driverfiles.net,
nodevice.com/driver/company/Pinnacle.html

Both these list a number of pinnacle drivers, but you haven't said exactly what the hardware is.

I do have back-ups....many DVD's, but this is a very time consuming thing as my XP install is only 3 months old.
I tried Driverguides, but didn't find anything at all. Thanks for the suggestions though. The reason Pinnacle cost so much was because I needed that special studio PCI card to d/l digital and analog movies for editing. I went from Studio 7 to 8.

Do you have the orginal Pinnacle drivers?
If you do, un-install , re-install them.
The corruption is probably from some event that happened on your hard drive - the original drivers should be fine.

Uninstall-
- look for an entry in Add/Remove Programs
- if not there, look for an entry in Start - Programs
- if not there, look for an uninstall on the original CD
- if not there, re-installing MAY get rid of the corruption.

Glad to hear you have backups - don't take my comment the wrong way, all to often we hear of people on here who have lost masses of critical data, and it becomes a bit of a reflex.

I can't help you on the original question, never having used the service. I have always (so far!) been able to find drivers on the firms site or the driver sites I mentioned. If they do have an update, I wonder where they got it.

I would first try re-installing the drivers that came with the hardware - after all, it sounds as if they used to work.

I tried looking on the 4 Studio 10 disks I picked up, but couldn't see anything helpful.

Sorry, but that's about all I can offer.

Best of luck!

Thanks for all the replies....Tubesandwires, I can't seem to locate the origional drivers CD's for the Pinnacle software as we are in the hurricane zone, and things get shifted everywhere when we are on the run from storms. So I guess unfortunately I can't re-install the software.

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

A last thought for tonight (it's 1:00am in the UK) - there are lots of copies of Pinnacle software on ebay.

Check back on this late tomorrow - I have another idea, but too late to follow it up tonight.

per, I tried that site, now I'm really wondering. It gave me 3 drivers that were bad and 18 software that are out-dated?
Looks like they all want us to buy them. Oh, and the pinnacle driver wasn't listed in this session?
And oldfogey, they didn't have a driver at the links you gave either
Thanks People for your input

Totallydrivers.com is free. You must have done the scan and received the old "you need this " crap. Just do a search for the drivers you need.
