Ok, well after all of the problems i've been having (see my previous posts) i decided to reinstall XP to be sure that it wasn't the install that was bad.... but in the middle of the install i got a "Driver_irql_not_less_or_equal" error.
Best guess?
I think i'm going to swap out my ide cord.... but what else could be wrong???
Thanks in advance!!!

Angie,
Two things i would try.
First: reset your BIOS to factory specs. You should be able to choose this option in the bios.
Dont ask me why, but I was about to lose my mind working on a problem like yours when out of desperation I reset the bios to factory specs. I've used this trick several times and can be useful.
Second:
if reseting the bios doesn't work I would suspect your RAM. XP is very picky about RAM. I tried to install XP on a machine and it would crash, freeze or tell me the disk was corrupt(it wasn't).Take out all but one stick of RAM and try the install. If it crashes, take that stick out and try another. Repeat untill you loose your sanity.
Let me know how it goes,

Des moines? I'm definately not there... i'm in virginia =)
ok... here's a question for you.... i popped open my cpu and popped out my ram... (i built this comp so you'd think i'd know what's in it) and i found that one stick of my ram has "PC-100" written on a sticker on it. The other has "PC-125" on a sticker on it. 125?!?!? The computer came with one stick and i put the other one in later. (i assume i put the 100 one in... just because i know to buy pc100 and i would have been really confused by the 125). So i'm trying with only the pc100.
I also reset the bios.
(turns out what i thought was my ide cable really wasn't one at all... oh well... lets hope its not that...)

I'm sure there will be another tired post from me if this doesn't work... i'll be sure to post if it does too! Thanks!!

Well, i've reset the bios. I've tested with BOTH sticks of ram. In mid instillation the first stick gave me a "Driver_irql..." error and the second gave me just the "irql" error.
Any new suggestions?
Thanks!

Try downloading and running a good memory diagnostic on each stick by itself. You may have 2 bad sticks (maybe you broke 1 when you popped the cpu open). Memtest86 is a good diag - you can find it through google.
