Hi Guys. The XP cannot recognize my xternal USB modem the type and manufacter are: VD56UC USB, conexant/rockwell. Wonder if there is any other compatible driver?????
Thanks anyway..

Hi there,
my XP can't write my motorola sm56 speakerphone modem.
i search for a drive, but i can't find it. how can you help me :-)thnx

On setup Windows XP did not detect the modem in my Advent laptop. Does anyone have an answer.
Many thanks

First download the latest Windows2000 drivers at:
http://e-www.motorola.com/products/softmodem/support/software.htmlNow follow these steps:
1. remove the modem from the system in the control panel;
2. start "regedit.exe";
3. find and DELETE all the entrys that have to do with "sm56" and "motorola";
4. reboot the system;
5. ignore all the "Found new Hardware" messages;
6. press WindowsKey + Pause, goto Hardware Tab, Device Manager, properties of PCI Communications Device,
and click on driver tab and UPDATE;7. to update de driver you have to inform the folder with the unzipped modem driver, win2k-pci or win2k-pci2;
8. after installing the drivers, go to c:/windows/motorola and run sm56hlpr.exe, sm56set.exe and sm56.reg
(it´s very important that you run sm56.reg and update your registry);9. be sure there are no IRQ conflicts: use msinfo32.exe and Device Manager to find out

One small problem with that last response
The Motorola site for SoftModem Drivers is CLOSED!. They no longer deal or support their drivers, so this means that unless any people out there make their own dedicated SM56 modem drivers pages, I suggest we buy new modems.

Após eu instalar u Windows XP a minha placa do Modem parou de funcionar ela é uma MOTOROLA SM56 PCI
gostaria de saber onde posso achar u drive dela

Goto http://e-www.motorola.com/webapp/sps/site/prod_summary.jsp?code=SM56PCIDFV&nodeId=01M0yyK3NVV you will have the choice of either one large file or two smaller ones to put on floppy disk. Create a new folder in your windows directory named motorola. Unzip the files into this folder. Run your install new modem and send it to this file for setup.
Good luck. After many attempts to install this is the way that finally worked for me.
