I am trying to get my Sound Blaster Audigy Sound Card to work in my Windows XP system and when I checked in the properties it says the Driver is enabled but has not been started? I looked through the services, nothing about creative, I looked through everything/ did all the common troubleshooting and I am stumped. Anyone solved this one yet? I have Athlon 1.2ghz Epox 8kta3 mobo, gig of ram, nVidia ti4200, Soundblaster Audigy Platinum. Thanks in advance.

Just took a peek at my Audigy drivers:
Driver Date 8/1/2001
No Version Listed
System says they are Microsoft verified.

I was was having crashes just as the welcome sound started, and this driver fixed same.

Hope I was of some help.

Hi,
I have no solution yet, but I am having the same problem with a friends computer. I have changed the sound card to another XP compliant card (as the onboard was also XP compliant), still receive the same error.

The new card was 'plug and play', the system found it and installed it without problems. It shows and being installed and has no problems, but I can't choose an audio device in the sound control panel (says that none are available, even thought the hardware shows it is there). Like Tim I have tried the services and can not see anything there, looked through all the sound settings and came up blank and uninstalled the sound card and tried with newer drivers from the companies website - Still no change!!!

I have found a few postings on various sites for this exact problem, but so far no one has added a workable solution. Personally I have a post on 'www.Experts-Exchange.com' as well, but no help yet.

Short of reinstalling the machine, does anyone have any clues?? It isn't the driver, it isn't the sound card (tried 2 cards and two drivers for each - Also tried the XP service pack and still nothing). Microsoft have nothing about this that I can find, however it is looking more and more like an XP related problem (no posting about this on any other OS)

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Peter

I am having the same exact problem.

System sounds are not working, and the selection of an audio device is not an option.

I have an onboard audio chip (disabled in BIOS) for which I have deleted all drivers and disabled software where necessary.
installation of the SB Live! was smooth, and then poof, no audio for me.

I know the card is functioning fine because winamp still playes through the card just fine...

I found this interesting little tidbit online at
www.rme-audio.de/english/faq/10entrye.htm:

"Since NT, Windows has an internal list of the 32bit MIDI and wave drivers. These lists can carry up to 10 entries maximum each, after that they will never be reset, deleted or carried further.

I will follow the instructions for cleaning out the driver listing in the reg, and post the results here soon.

Supremely Frustrating!!!
I did have extra drivers listed in the reg. but deleting them made no noticable difference at all.
I still get the same crap.

I am stumped as to why Bill would relese beta software to paying customers......OH WELL, I guess I don't own the world.

Exact same problem here - fixed it. Here was my fix: System - Athlon 900, Windows XP Home, Asus A7V 133, GeForce 4 Ti, Soundblaster Audigy Gamer, etc. - Although the device manager showed sound devices as functioning properly, the Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator (under System Devices)had the big yellow exclamation point. This showed error 39: driver corrupted or missing. I checked my wife's system which is almost identical (except Audigy was working) and under the driver details for the Software enumerator was the file "swenum.sys". This file was not present on my 'puter. I copied the file from her system (under Windows/System32/DRIVERS) and pasted it into the same folder on my system and restarted system - don't try to update the driver just reboot. After reboot the Software Enumerator device was working fine. I then reinstalled the drivers for the Audigy and presto - everything back to normal. If you have access to another computer with XP see if you can copy this file. Good Luck!

I am having the same problem with the "driver enabled but not started message", unfortunately, I uninstalled the Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator in Device Manager when I saw the exclamation point, and it hasn't come back, even though I have the swenum.sys driver in my computer. I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the sound drivers, but nothing. The problem started when I updated the sound driver and the computer froze while installing it, then on restart it checked the hard drive and "fixed" a bunch of files (I remember seeing something about truncating). The mixer icon shows up in the taskbar, but when I try to open it, I get the message "There are no active mixer devices available.." etc. I don't know what else to try at this point.

I am having the same issues with my soundcard. Have tried to delete the extras in the registry, have updated XP drivers, and am frustrated.

I do have some more info. I tried installing a pre-xp webcam (and its software) and it gave me all sorts of fits. The computer froze and and on it's reboot, found files that were truncated.
