I seem to be having graphics card trouble, though I could be wrong. When I try to play games, after about 30-45 minutes, sometimes sooner, the game crashes, sometimes with an error message, sometimes not, and sometimes, the whole computer will crash, and give a stop error that says DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. This happens with any game I play, short of solitaire and other minimal resource using games.

Nothing in particular seems to trigger it, and sometimes it happens even when I'm not running any games. I have a feeling that it's my graphics card, but I'm not sure what would be wrong with it, and whether or not I could fix it.

So far, I've only tried two things. I turned off video BIOS shadowing (before I turned it off, the errors came up much more often) and updating the drivers for my video. So, turning off BIOS shadowing helped, but didn't fix the problem.

Before this began happening, I had a problem with the computer crashing for no particular reason and giving an IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL stop error, (No DRIVER added on to the front) but I fixed this by resetting all my BIOS settings to the fail-safe defaults and reinstalling XP.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Computer info:
AMD 1.13 ghz processor
256 mb ram
ATI Radeon VE
Biostar M7VKD mainboard

You could look at the system error logs to see if there is any more info to help diagnose the problem (Control Panel--Administrative Tools--Event Viewer). That's one of those general errors that is hard to pinpoint without additional clues.

I've got a new computer - and had XP Pro installed - the very same error message keeps popping up and restarts - checks files and space - takes up time only to do the same again. All my stuff is compatible.

All I had changed was the Cdrom into DVDrom and I know that's not the problem. Like you the uncertainty of when this Win XP Pro is about toi reboot any minute - in other words it's unpredictable. Sometimes it works for three or four hours a session -no problems then other times 2 mins, maybe three and constant reboots. Horrifying isn't it?

Oh, I don't play any games either. Don't think it's anything to do with games at all, not heat, not software, hardware - maybe some updates...not even drivers.

Make sure DirectCD is not installed onto your computer if so, uninstall it and see if that helps. If that doesn't work, make sure there is no irq conflicts. Maybe change all you pci cards into a different slot. If none of that works your mobo might be fried.

I found one of the system errors in the event log, but it doesn't really tell me much.

Error code 000000d1, parameter1 00061bab, parameter2 00000002, parameter3 00000000, parameter4 00061bab.

And then another a bit later that was the same as the first one.

I've also discovered a lot of DHCP errors and service control manager errors, don't know if that'd mean anything or not.

Also, I noticed my graphics card and network card are on the same IRQ setting, (11) could this be causing a conflict?

Again, any help is appreciated!

My computer had a stop error again, just moments ago, and the event viewer says

The IP address lease xxx.xxx.x.xxx for the Network Card with network address xxxxxxxxxxxx has been denied by the DHCP server xxx.xxx.x.x (The DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK message).

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

It seems likely that my network card and graphics card are having a conflict from sharing the same IRQ (11), can anyone confirm or deny this, or provide me with more information?

Thanks again!

Everyone means well here - good people but this problem has been mentioned here again and again. I've read most of them I think. Best to try them all - one by one - the advice, I mean.

For me my PC has been working well now for three hours - no problems - but just waiting when I will get the error message as in your Subject line.

Try a different method of thinking. For example, I only get this problem when online to the internet - no other time when offline, so my thinking in my case my problem is internet (maybe modem linked) problem. Offline I can play all the games and DVD's and have no problems. It just when online....

I read on the web that some updates couldbe at odds with some hardware/software in XP. Yep so when I uninstalled most of my updates my system appeared more stable - true. Why who knows. Sorry I'm not more helpful, but everyone including my technical people at best are thinking of all the possibilites. I think it's the Win XP Pro system - imperfect.
Just read all the posts about the same problem. Cheers...good luck.
