driver failure

Comment:
Graphics driver fails. Intel 965 Express chipset. Returns to 640x480 resolution with 8 bit color. No apparent reason. Doesn't seem to be tied with a certain program. Purposely overheated laptop and it didn't fail so heat isn't an issue. Not tied to physical position of laptop. Integrated graphics so it can't be replaced. Not overclocked. OS switched from Vista to XP, but it happened on both operating systems. Both were legitimate. No malware of any sort.

sometimes the hardware just dies and quits working.... a couple of things you might try. 1)make sure that your system is clean and free from any malware/spyware/viruses. Don't care if you think this doesn't fit into the problem...do it anyway. 2) do a chkdisk by using the utility from the harddrive manufacture and not the built in one from windows... 3)Make sure that the intel graphics driver is removed from add/remove and do a search for any in the driver files as well and remove it. Then re-install the updated graphic driver...and if that still doesn't work then try to install an older driver after you again remove the new one from add/remove first. If all else fails...do a BIOS upgrade and see if that helps.
