Hey,
I just purchased another external hard drive (I have 7 of them), as well as several networked drives. There are so many that I now have a Z:\ drive (from A:\ - Z:\ ). If I go to add another external drive or we add another mapped network drive to the network what will it be lettered?

Probably wont let you. 26 drives is enough for anybody. What you trying to do, set some kind of record.

Sounds like a nightmare. How about consolidating the smaller drive with large ones? Nevertheless, I assume all the external drives are not connected at once (at least, I hope), so why can't they all use the same drive letter when connected? They're obviously for storage -- music downloads, perhaps?

I wouldnt be so sure. When you assign at network drive in XP it starts at Z: and works back to C: Local drives start at C: and work down to Z: till they meet in the middle. There is no way to assign network drive with a letter higher than Z.
From XP Help:
A computer can use up to 26 drive letters. Drive letters A and B are reserved for floppy disk drives, but you can assign these letters to removable drives if the computer does not have a floppy disk drive. Hard disk drives in the computer receive letters C through Z, while mapped network drives are assigned drive letters in reverse order (Z through B).
