drive format and partitions

Specs: Windows XP
I have two hard drive - 40 gb and 160 gb. 40 gb has 2 partitions with primary partition having win xp os. 160 gb has 4 partitions with all important files. Due to system crash i had to instal win xp again. But while doing so I had disconnected the 160 gb drive and installed the os and then connected the 160 gb hard drive. Now the drive is recognised as a unformatted and unpartitioned drive with no file visible. Can anyone advise me on how to get back these patitions and files

You need to install the service packs in order for WinXP to use a 160GB hard drive.

If that doesn't help then download and use testdisk on the 160GB. Take care to read all the help files BEFORE running testdisk. It should be able to fix things.

Get the help and program below. Click on the number 6.11 for the download.
