Hi guy's, my drive won't recognize a blank cd disc? It's very strange because up until a day ago i was burning to disc fine with no problems at all. When i try and burn with Nero 8 the disc pop's out and Nero asks me to insert a blank disc. I've tried with four different brands of disc's all brand new from the shop and not one would work. The other strange thing is that it will play my dvd movies with out a problem, they start in a second!!! Please can someone help me? One more thing that i've, noticed in the "set program access and defaults" section in Windows it has changed to "custom" setting and won't let me change it back to "Microsoft Windows"?? Please help

a question I have is have you tried a system restore back to when it worked?
If the system restore doesn't work, it may be spyware causing the problem.

Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers

In most cases, the laser in the DVD-Writer has to be cleaned.
Had the same problem a few month ago.

The CD ciruits/laser in an optical drive can fail, but the drive can still work fine with DVDs.

All the above responses are correct.
There may be other reasons too.
Did you just install any new software?
Do you use Microsoft auto updater?
Any new hardware?
Did you open or move the tower in the last couple of days?

BTW, using bold font won't get you an answer any faster. Harder to read.
