Hi,
Since I installed Service Pack 2 for Windows XP I've been having a problem with my mouse. All of a sudden it starts drifting in various directions. At first I thought there was something wrong with my mouse, so I went and bought new mouse. That didn't work, the same problem occurs. It's not a USB problem either because the new mouse is a PS/2.

Has Microsoft released any patches for this?
I haven't been able to find any.

Can anybody help me?

Thanks in advance.

Well, I see that I'm not the only one with this peculiar mouse behavior. I certainly don't have a solution, but will follow this item to learn what I can do to stop the darn thing.

Same here! Mine is on a laptop and did as MS suggested and created a hardware profile with the touchpad disabled. Didn't work though. Something has just now come to mind though, I think mine has a bios setting to disable the touchpad. I might give that and MS's suggestion another try and see if it works that way.

Mine did the same thing. Come to find out I had 10 Trojans taking control of it, somehow or another. Cleaned 'em out with AVG and WHA-LA! Good as new.

Hope that helps.

Always been one to ask questions.

Steve, RJN has done what I was gonna advise. I recall that there was some sort of nasty which caused erratic mouse movement. Another thought is to make sure you have the proper driver and mouse settings. SP2 can change a bunch of stuff.

I consider my computer to be fairly well screened and protected. Online scans etc. showed nothing. There is tons of posts on the web about this problem after the installation of SP2 but I can't find ONE solution. I even swapped mouses around on three comps but it only happens on the comp with XP SP2.

Control Panel - Mouse - Pointer Options - and uncheck 'Enhance pointer precision'.

Thanks for your help.
I don't have any viruses, I've scanned it with NAV 2005 with the latest virus definitions.
I'll try the 'Enhanced pionter precision' ting.

Hi.
I am having the same problem. The mouse pointer gets to the top of the screen and stays there. I am not able to control its vertical movement but horizantal movement is fine. I thought there might be a problem with the mouse, but changing the mouse did not work. I having this problem after trying to install SP2. Though the installation never took place and everything was rolled back. What is to be done? I tried installing new mouse drivers from the net, still it is not working.
