Well my 12 year old boy must have been at it again. Everytime I let him use my PC (even though they have their own)he seems to find a way to either remove or add a feature or change my settings in something. Usally I know how to correct it and its not a big deal. However this time he has me stumped ,in every shotcut, file and folder when I right click on it the last thing listed is defragment(was not listed there B/4) ? Now Iam not sure if this is a WinXP feature or added by Power Toys for WinXP , I also have System Mechanic by iolo, CCleaner and Norton Security Suite,I've tried doing a search using google to no avail and went thru the folder options in Windows Explorer, then I found that when I click on Windows Explorer in Start/AllProgams /Accessories ,Windows Explorer it does not open on my desktop ,instead MY Documnets is listed in the taskbar ? Now I may have missed disableing these settings somewhere ,however Iam hoping one of the knowlegable people here at computing.net which has been my go to place for 8 years now when it comes to fixing PC probs, will have the answer once again !
Thanks My Friends
Nick
FYI> I tried a system restore ,however its never worked on my PC (I believe its a Norton bug or if any update is installed it will not perform a restore)

Are you saying you no longer see properties on that list?

Most any shortcut can be placed on the task bar next to the Start button if you are using the Quick Launch toolbar. Right click a blank spot on the task bar. View Tool bars. Is Quick Launch ticked?

Why aren't you using a password to open your computer? That would stop your son wouldn't it? I could say more on that subject but I won't.

Its me again ! Iam not sure if this has anything related to my problem ,however I noticed when I plug in one of my jump drives the deframent listing is not there? So apprently its a setting that only applies to drive C my internial 250GB hard drive ? As I stated ,this may have nothing to do with my prob ,just thought I would let those trying to help know this !
Thanks Again, Nick

Thanks Chuck ,I will try the suggested fixes and post back on the outcome ! OvertheHill , the reason I do not lock my kids out of using my PC is due to them needing to use it to print homework ,the old P3 I gave them came with a Lexmarks Z22 ,which as bad as some people claim they are lasted me untill I purchased my Dell XPS400 ,a good 6 + years of service ,and actually I could probably get it up and running again by replacing the cartriges and wicking them B/4 use to clean out the dried up ink in the printers inkjet system? If my ?'s frustrate you in anyway ,I apoligize ,it seems I have a way of doing that to members on this site ,Both of you Chuck + OvertheHill, take care and Happy Turkeyday !!!
Sincerely ,Nick

Your questions don't frustrate me.

However your statement "Everytime I let him use my PC (even though they have their own)he seems to find a way to either remove or add a feature or change my settings in something" is telling.

Obviously your son has done more than just print from your computer.

If you leave your computer on and password protected and share the printer with the other computers in the house you can allow them to use the printer without actually using the computer.

"in every shotcut, file and folder when I right click on it the last thing listed is defragment"

My guess is that your son installed a program (defragger?), and it added that to the list. Check the 'Add or Remove programs' list for some thing that you don't recognize.

Well I looked in ADD/REMOVE programs in the control panel and I do not see a new application. Now I do have System Mechanic installed and it has all kind of tools and options ,perhaps thats the culprit. I just cant see how my son would have been able to enable a feature I cannot even find a option for? I may have to live with the defrag option at the end of the list when you right click on files, shortcuts and folders! As to the ? about properties being listed ,YES its still listed ,in fact the defragment listing is right below the prperties listing ?
Thanks Again ,Nick

Well I finally found out why a defragment option was listed when I right click on files folders and shortcuts ! The culprit was the System Mechanic program ! It has a option called Individual tolls at the very bottom of over a dozen options ,is one called Configure Right Click Defragmentation then a button that says "start" ! Well apprently it was already started ,however I could not figure out how to stop it ,finally I just went for it and clicked on the start biutton ,that opened another page that had a disable button (you think they would have called the start button a configure button)well sure enough after putting a check mark in the disableing defragmentation ,all of the defrag option on right click where gone ! THanks to all that tried to help me ,only I could have some weird stuff like this happen on my PC .Now hopefully Iam done for now Iam sure you are all wiskhing the same ?
Thank You Very Much
Nick
