Does anyone know if there is a registry "hack" that allows IE to download more than two files at a time?

I don't know of any registry hack that would do that with IE. I have no problems downloading several files at the same time from one site ( as opposed to individual downloads from several sites at the same time ). What type of connection do you have ? Keep in mind that the server you are downloading from may have limits set on simultaneous downloads from the same ip address.

Thanks for the reply, but it just won't let me download more than two files at once everywhere I go... I'd always have to wait for other files to finish before it'll let me save another one. I have a cable modem also, so that isn't an issue. This didn't happen when I used Netscape long ago, but once I started with IE 4.0 - 6.0 it's been like this and I've always thought it was just an IE thing...

Look for an xp tweak tool called Tweak XP - it has a selectable hack that lets you increase the number of simultaneous IE downloads to 5 or more (depending on speed connection)

Now for the real information! Check out the Microsoft knowledge based article Q282402. It will show you how to edit the registry and increase the number of simultaneous downloads. The RFC limits it to 2 but it is very simple to get more.
