I agree with sabertooth. I suspect you may need to either make a barts/ubcd4win disk or slipstream a disk with drivers and might as well add in service pack.
I haven't fully tried it but you can use the vista cd as a PE disk. Might be able to install it that way.
I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.

if setting the SATA mode in your BIOS to Non-RAID/IDE doesn't solve the problem you need the xp controller drivers loaded either via Floppy or slipstreamed installation CD

Oh man this notebook is pricey - $2,299.99 plus taxes, S&H. According to the link the HD is 5400rpm SATA. For that amount of $$ he could have bought similar notebook from HP or Toshiba with XP preinstalled & ready to use.

Just a thought, make sure you have all the necessary drivers for your hardware to change from Vista to XP, if you don`t, it can be a can of worms, some hardware mfgs do not offer XP drivers for a Vista system.

Microsoft's rule to OEM builders for supplying newer Vista operating sytem on new computers is that they now cannot offer XP drivers to the same computer.
OEM, Branded new system builders get special conciderations for this! As in special pricing.
