Downgrade from pirated windows 7 to legit xp

December 25, 2011 at 11:33:42
Specs: Windows 7
i bought a used HP laptop installed with windows 7 32 bit ultimate w/genuine hack, the laptop has a oem sticker it came originally with XP Pro.

how can i do this? i tried using a HP XP cd (from another HP I have that came with factory OS CD), however it gives message that I cannot downgrade.

Is there a way to do this? Prefer a method not involving partition.

Thanks so much and Merry Christmas!

Windows will not allow a downgrade over-the-top installation. You can only upgrade that way.

You may not have any option but to delete the Win7 partition and create a new partition & Format so XP can be installed. I'm not sure the tools on the XP disk will allow you to just format the existing partition but you could try that first.

Noramlly ypu can just format the old parttion and reinstall but becasue the partition contains a later version of Windows you will almost certainly have to delete partition in it intirety and recreate it. However, if is not difficult once you have booted to the Windows XP boot disk. Just follow the on-screen prompts.

Windows 7 creates a small 100MB hidden boot partition that will have to be deleted. I suggest you delete ALL the partitions, then create at least 2 new ones - one for Windows & one for storage. Format as NTFS, then continue with the installation of XP. However, if you have a SATA HDD, you'll have other issues that will have to be dealt with 1st.

You may have a WinXP restore partition on the hard drive. I suggest you check that out first before removing all the partitions. T ry tapping 11 as soon as you boot the computer. If the computer appears to have a restore partition follow the prompts.

Just to say that there are ways of getting your own files off first. You can use one of the live Linux CD's or Barts PE. Shout back if you require further information on this and either I or someone else will be able to help.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
