on start up, XP shows following error message- boot disk failure, insert system boot disk. does this mean my HD has died?? in Cmos system dosnt recognise a HD being installed even though I have used it bfore on theis system. can I recover the data, or does this have to be done by a pro? havn't changed the hardware set up, apart from adding 1 front case fan!! all my digi photos are on the disk so i really need to get them back, not to mention all those hours playing games... thanks for your help

Hi barney,

Don't panic.

With the power UNPLUGGED, reseat all cards and cables.

Leave just that one HD and your floppy hooked up.

Waht does BIOS report now?

Double check the jumpers on the harddrive and make sure you have them set right for the belt posistion. It could mean your harddrive is trashed. It could be settings in bios. What is the first boot device listed in bios? You could always pull it out and stick it in another computer as a slave drive and explore the drive and get your pictures if the drive isnt trahsed.

A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on..
