I have to demo some dos software at a client sight under windows Xp. the problem is printing to a network printer (hp) running a jetdirect card from a dos box. Netgear print servers honor the Universal Naming Convention (UNC), but the Hp's do not seem to honor any UNC names that I have tried. The CAPTURE button in the print properties no longer seems to exist under Xp. If the printer is connected to LPT1 and shared, it's do-able. If it's a 'standalone' network printer, I can't seem to figure out how to do it. Any suggestions would be welcome.
All the clients use Hp standalone network printers with jetdirect cards.

To print with a DOS application on a networked printer use the NET USE command in
a DOS Command Prompt window on Win XP.
Example: NET USE lpt1 \\server\\printer
With the "server" being the PC with the printer and the "printer" being the windows print queue.

Thanks for the response. This however is a print server inside a printer, there is no server name to refer to.
I called hp yesterday, the only way to do this is to share the printer locally (redundant), then use the local computer name and share name in the NET USE command.

You can try to use special program for support printing from DOS applications on any kinds of printers include winprinters, USB-printers, network printers, print servers etc.
Also DOSPRN support Epson and HP PCL Esc-sequences emulation, multiple international codepages, landscape/portrait printing, text color manipulation, absolute positioning and many other features
