Hey i am thinking about another way to access my items
instead of filling my desktop or making a million subfolders i figured it out...
if i were able to make a menu in the old-style version
then i just get that menu
then i can place it in the startup folder in the start menu

So my question is...
How can i make a simple menu like this:

1. IE
2. Warcraft
3. Forza Motorsport

and then i can write the number and press enter and i have provided the paths and then it linked to the program selected and closed the batch file/cmd
I am running Windows XP Pro

I don't think I understand. Instead of making a million folders and sub folders, you want to make a batch file with a million numbers to select programs?

Wouldn't it be better to make folders for each associated type of application (for example Games, utilities, word processing, video, grahics, etc) then create more groups under them.

Or just use the Start button menu for occasionally used programs or games.

Or create a folder with shortcuts to each program.

I saw something that looked like an active desktop web page. It used sort of a 1 through 16 button on the desktop. While it was used for favorite web pages one may be able to just write a simple web page and run it locally with active desktop. Your names of programs would be hyper linked to local files instead of web pages. Should be too easy. I use a web page like that for all sorts of local files and programs but I haven't used it as active desktop.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you goober.

"a million subfolders..."

No matter what you do, you've still got at the very least "a million" of something.. and that's your problem (and therein a pointer to how to fix it -- [holding my tongue now, big time]).
