I have some old dos programs. Qbasic Vbdos and some games but when I try and run them the same error message comes up that says:
The Parameter is incorrect. Ineed help to run this. Note I can run GW-Basic but nothing else.

You can run old DOS based programs on XP with the help of 3rd party software.

Since there is no DOS in Windows XP, you do indeed need a third-party utility unless you want to have a dual-boot scenario.

bmustillrose is right. dosbox should work just fine for what you need.
