sorry, i've posted this in the "games" forum but there isn't alot of traffic so i hope someone can help me out here. i've looked everywhere and i found nothing on this.
i've been trying to load my copy of doom3 but everytime the splash screen comes up, it goes away then nothing happens.
i look under "process" in task manage and i see "doom3.exe" file, which consumes about 10,000Kb of memory. but there is nothing running under "application" nor do i see the program on screen. what does this mean? is it running in the background?
i'm also having the same problem with rainbow6: raven shield, but i am able to play othe pc games i have. most notibly: MotoGP 2, Commandos, tomb raider, and demos like doom3 and far cry.
i've upgraded about everything in my computer. i also have plenty of swap file space allocated for gaming (1.5gig) and plenty of power (500 watt powre supply box). i'm also using an xfx geforce 6800 gt video card w/ updated drivers and i also updated my bios and chipsets to hyperion. my rig is more than capable of playing doom3 and raven shield.
i've also contacted activision's tech support but all they tell me to update the drivers and bios etc. still a no go.
it's been a week since got the game and still hven't been able to play it. if there are any gamers out there, you guy/girls know how frustrating this can be. any comment on this would be apperciated. thanks!

Even though may not be old games, but may help:
I find if an older game or program cannot be installed by
way of its CD, then use "Program Compatibility Wizard" to install it.If a game is installed by doing the above, but will not start by
way of the CD, then when inserting the CD hold down the left
Shift key for approx. 15 sec. to keep AutoRun from taking over.
Now click the game in the "All Programs" list. Should start now.
---------------
From a Microsoft web page:If an older application gives you trouble when running
Windows XP, you can set the compatibility properties
manually so that the program runs in a different mode,
such as Windows 95, or in a different display or resolution
setting. To set the compatibility properties for a program:
1. Right-click the executable or the program shortcut to the
executable, and then click Properties.
2. Select the Run this program in compatibility mode check box.
3. From the list, select an operating system that the program
runs in comfortably.
4. If necessary, also change the display settings and/or
resolution, or disable the Windows XP visual themes.
Run the program again when you?re finished changing the
settings. Adjust the compatibility settings again if the
program is still not running smoothly: a program that's
unhappy on Windows 2000 may flourish on Windows 98.

Did you install SP 2 yourself ?
Did this happen before SP 2 ?Just to say, some Windows Updates can cause other problems to happen in XP. For example:
If I install the IE 6 Update Q832894, I then find that all the Help Topics were gone in Windows HELPIndex. All came back when I removed
"Internet Explorer Q832894"
from Add/Remove Programs list.SP2 has that one also.
Just to point out that Windows or IE 6 Updates could affect some Windows functions.

sp2 was already installed on my computer.
i bought my comp about 2 weeks ago. os is xp home w/ sp2. as i mentioned earlier, i can play the demos but i don't understand why i'm having problems playing these two games!

They are talking about issues with Doom3 here at the technical section:
http://www.forumplanet.com/planetdoom/topic.asp?fid=5733&tid=1439944You could ask around there; they are specialized in Doom3.
Not sure this a real windows-problem.I do my best, but is never enough!
