donwloading is very slow

i have a 2mb internet connection. i could have completed my downloads very fastly. but now i a days i am suffering a lot. the downloads are very slow. please help

turning off all file sharing programs like limewire or bearshare or something like that...other people can uploading your music/files.... that cause it to slow down

THe limewire I know you can't just hit the "X" to close it it just minimizes to the bottom right of the screen. People canstill be uploading from you taking up all your speed. Be sure to right click it at the bottom right and select close. I have ran into a lot of people that didn't realize this.
