My girlfriend got this laptop from someone in her family that didn't use it and now we can't even log on to Windows when we turn the computer on. No one seems to know the password and theres no password reset disk "or anything. Gateway said they can't do anything w/passwords so what could I do? All we can do is turn the computer on/off and shut it down, or type in a guess at the password.PLease help.

Ask the "someone in her family" for the password is the easiest solution of all. i_XpUser

Using Start - Run to change Password.Click on Start-Run, type: CONTROL userpasswords2, then click on OK. When the "User Accounts" window loads, click once on the username you wish to change the password for, then click on the "Reset Password" button. At the next window, type the new password twice, then click on OK and restart the computer. You'll need to use the new password when you access the login to the normal user again.
