Believe you need to wipe hard drive before trying to reinstall XP. Win7 does not want you to install XP, so you have to get rid of Win7.

Many programs on web for wiping your drive, I personally like EaseUS Partition Manager.

Hope this helps!

Your Acer originally came with Vista pre-installed.

How did you install Windows 7 initially? As stated above you need to format the partition and that will cause you to lose all your programs and personal files. Are you sure you want to do that?

If you have a WinXP FULL EDITION CD you can boot to that to install WinXP.

If your BIOS settings allow you to run your SATA hard drive in an IDE mode you can install XP directly from that full version CD. WinXP doesn't have SATA controller drivers included so you can't run the drive as a SATA hard drive unless you supply the SATA drivers. That may be more trouble than you want.

I suggest you stay with Windows 7. The learning curve is not that steep. You can make 7 look and act a lot like XP. Windows 7 is a better OS and XP is barely supported by Microsoft anymore.

You state the graphics card is not compatible with Windows 7. Does that mean we are not working with an Aspire x1300? If not, post the computer model and the graphics card model.

BTW, why are you posting about Windows 7 & XP in the Win95/98 forum?

You have to wipe out all partitioning, create new partitions, format, THEN install XP. Everything can be done with the XP disc, no 3rd party software is required. However, if you have a SATA hard drive, there are other issues you will have to deal with.

BTW, why did you buy such an outdated video card? Let me guess - because it only cost $5?
