Situation: I'm on the road I'll be using a friend's Windows XP PC. I'll want to access my desktop through a browser using Remote Desktop Web Connection.
Question: Will I have to download and enable an ActiveX control?
In other words, is the ActiveX control that's required for Remote Desktop Web Connection already installed and enabled in a default version of Windows XP?

Why use the Web Connection version of Remote Desktop? As long as the host (your home PC) can run RD then you can use the client on just about any PC to connect. The client does not need to be XP Pro.

Michael J is correct. If the home PC is running WinXP Pro then you can connect without using a web based application.
If you need/want to use the web based application then you must install the activeX control because it is the web based application.
Otherwise there are other free romote desktop programs available that simply need an internet connection to utilize after installing the host application on the target PC and the client application on the remote/local PC.
