Comment: Have fought this since installing XP. Upon desktop showing after boot up my documents folder appears as an open window..first thing. I have tried many remedies. After a fresh install it is gone for a few days and then it is there again as the first open window upon boot up. any help appreciated

Reply: (edit)Just a guess, but check the following folders: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup and C:\Documents and Settings\username\Start Menu\Programs\Startup where username denotes a your user account configured on the computer. So, try to remove it from the above two folders.
