Do I need to format HD with new motherboard?

Specs: Windows XP sp3, 4800+/4g
Dropping my single core system for a dual core, but would just like to put the existing HDD in with the new motherboard, cpu and memory. Is there an easy transition iin bringing the old HDD into the new system without losing all my data? I thought I would ask before I find out the hard way.

The old drive won't boot on the new system but you can try a "repair installation". You won't lose any data or programs, but you will lose all Windows updates. And of course, you'll have to install drivers for the new chipset, video, sound, network, etc.
