do I need Adobe Acrobat

December 20, 2010 at 12:51:02
Specs: Windows XP

I have so much stuff in my add remove program. I'm not very computer literate. However I would like to downsize. I am happy looking up stuff and playing my games, getting recipes, printing knitting patterns etc. Trust me "Nothing High Tech".
At this time I have 7 Adobe program:
Adobe Acrobat 5.0
Adobe Air
Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX
Adobe Flash Player 10 Plugin
Adobe Reader 9.4.1
Adobe Shockwave Player 11.5

Do I need all of this. Would you help me

Thank You
Sue Fisher (mammysue@roadrunner.com)

The first one is to read PDF files. It is a common program but only needed if you want to read pdf files. Other programs exist.

The rest is web stuff. If you want to see web pages correctly then you may need the rest.

Why did it take me over a year to phone in a problem to ATT?

Sue you'll get a lot of junk email if you leave that address there, or anywhere else on the net.

Foxit Reader (free) is a much smaller pdf reader if you want to save space. It does all that Adobe does. If you use Foxit you could uninstall Adobe Acrobat 5.0 and Adobe Reader 9.4.1.

Adobe Shockwave is mainly used for playing their games, so it depends whether you do so.

I doubt you need Adobe Air as it is mainly for developers. You can always download it again if you suddenly need it.

The Flash Player stuff is quite small and it enables you to see certain graphics when online. Probably worth keeping.

Having a lot of things in Add-Remove is only important if they run all the time (thereby slowing the start and running of your computer. Large things also matter if you are stuck for HD space - the sizes are usually given.

We all live on a ball.
