I have windows xp and dsl through comcast. I can co to comcast.net but when i try to login or check mail it says dns error...this page cannot be displayed. i can go to other pages but most of the problem is with some secure sites.

the dns error like that means that you have your securities settings set too high and/or
you have some third party program that trys to hide your websurfing by concealing your web address.In either case the secure sites will not allow sign in unless they can see where you are at period.
you can try this also to see if it will help also:
The page cannot be displayed
Cannot find server or DNS error
CAUSE
This error message can be caused by incorrect security settings in Internet Explorer.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue: 1. Quit Internet Explorer (if it is running).
2. Click Start,, click Control Panel, and then double-click Internet Options.
3. Click the Advanced tab.
4. Scroll down to the Security section.
5. Clear the Use PCT 1.0 selection.
6. Clear the Use TLS 1.0 selection.
7. Click OK.
