dllhost.exe = taking bandwidth?

Every time I boot up, I see DLLHOST.exe is running in the background. This must be stock with Windows XP, because I've just formatted. The problem I have is after a while of DLLHOST.exe running, it uses all my bandwidth replying to ICMP requests (?) and takes 50-80% CPU. This doesn't hardly bog down my CPU, but it makes the internet un-browsable. For instance, I usually ping 50 on yahoo.ca, when DLLHOST.exe has been running for 1hour+ it either times out or has a ping reply of over 3000ms. Anyone know why/how I can disable DLLHOST.exe from starting at bootup/what service it's part of? It doesn't seem to force a shutdown on WindowsXP like some RPC applications do, so I don't think it's that vital (everything functions without it.). Anyone?

You have a variation of the blaster worm... try the following...
-change the date on your computer to Jan 1, 2004 -reboot and download all critical updates for Windows -do an online virus scan at housecall.trendmicro.com (your antivirus may not let you update your definitions after you change the date) -change the date back to current
