Is it a secret as to what the message says, and
the name of the file????
------------------
Also to say, you should get more RAM.
XP uses all of 128 to run properly,
and works better.
It slows things down if you have programs starting and running in the background during Startup.
Also when you open programs, things are slower
if they have to take RAM away from XP.

Sorry I forgot to include the error message but I didn't want to reboot my computer after I began typing :-) I will include it later.

The error message that comes up is 'you are attempting to open a file of type "application extension" (.dll)
'These files are used by the operating system and various programs, if you still want to open click open with, otherwise, click cancel'
Thanks for the help

Just a guess, but it sounds like Windows is trying to open a dll file that has no name before the dll extension.

Look in the following folders for any dll file that has no name, then delete it:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

and

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

where username denotes a your user account configured on the computer.
----------------
Or do a SEARCH of your C drive for:

*.dll

This will bring up every dll file on your computer. Look for one with no name and delete.

Well, I did the search both ways and was unable to find any files without names. I did however find two files that did not have any application extension or size listed. One was a Yahoo! startup, and the other was a Windows update. Both were activeX control type. I haven't deleted these files, but I could use some input from others. Thanks.
