Various dll's including ddraw.dll give errors
Starting yesterday when I try to run applications that include video elements such as:

Windows Media Player 11
FRAPS
Corel Videostudio

and others various error messages appear.

These all take the form of "The application or DLL c:\windows\system32\x is not a valid windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette."

The specific DLLs include:

ddraw.dll and devenum.dll

I can no longer view movies or run software that has to do with video capture or editing. Media Player (11) says it doesn't have the proper codec, then freezes. Windows Movie Maker runs, but cannot import any video because it claims it doesn't have the proper codec.

I have tried deleting the dll's in question, then reinstalling DirectX. But DirectX says it is already installed.

DXDIAG shows no problems with directx.

I restored various restore points, but each time the problem persists.

1. Error Checking- This takes about 35 minutes for my PC but don't stop it.
Start - my computer - right click local disk (C) - properties - Tools Tab -
Error checking section - Check now - check mark both boxes - Start -
This requires a restart to begin.
2. Start - Run - type - sfc /scannow - OK
Don't forget the space between c and /
You may need the Recovery CD if any thing is found wrong.
Don't insert unless asked for. Takes about 35 minutes.
