using xp home windows media player i play the film without sound, no problems at all. I install the ac3 codec and it crashed therefore no sound on films. any ideas?

You can manage your codecs here.......
Start > Settings > Control Panel > Sounds And Audio Devices > Hardware > Video Codecs.

solution: klite codec pack link: http://home.hccnet.nl/h.edskes/mirror.htm unintall what you have and get this if u already havnt. should sort out all your codec problems forever.
or alternatively get VideoLan. This can play any media without intalling any codecs. link: www.videolan.com
