DivX audio problem?!

I downloaded every single program for playing DivX AVI compressed files and still 99% of all the files I've downloaded from the internet have no sound at all. All encoders I've heard of, all the software and no results! Please guys can someone give me a glue here - what's up with this DivX compression?

Are the files your trying to play using Xvid as the video codec? usually Xvid compressed DivX use a codec named AC3. There are lots of different versions of this codec, different ones work with different things.

I got hold of it from divxdigest to fix a similar playback problem (no audio) yet when i came to play Freelancer (MS game) certain sounds where missing and i had to change some registry settings and reinstall to get it working. Thankfully my Xvid DivX are all working still...
