I am trying to back up this laptop with DI 7.0. I cannot proceed because of an error message, to whit:
"Backup of C:\ did not complete successfully. An invalid character was found in text content."
This happens as soon as DI starts the backup process.
Thanks for any input, as always.

What medium are you trying to back up to - harddrive or a disc? Drive Image reboots and runs from DOS when it is trying to back up correct?
Was there an error number in front of the error message? Just curious because I did a google search using the wording, "Drive Image error "Backup of C:\ did not complete." and the first link it provided was to the Symantec web site, "Error: 'E7C3000F: Backup of C:\ did not complete successfully' when creating an image with Drive Image 7.0 or Symantec LiveState Recovery" http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...

I was just trying to backup to the laptop hard-drive. I'm not sure if DOS is involved, but on my desktop, it seems DI7 stays in Windows.
I'll check out the Symantec website. I thought DI was swallowed by Symantec, and that it had simply disappeared.
Thanks, and will keep reading

I am hearing that you are trying to back up Drive C.
Are you saying that you are trying to back up Drive C onto Drive C - or do you have another partition on that harddrive? I can't remember off-hand, but I thought that if you are using Drive Image to back up your operating system: you click on Drive Image, it opens and you specify what you want to back up. Drive Image then says ok, but need to reboot to back up the operating system. It then reboots the computer and runs in DOS to back up the operating system. I don't believe that you can back up to the partitiion that is being back up using Drive Image. You would have to use another harddrive/partition or CDs.
I switched to Acronis Ture Image when Drive Image was handed over to Symantec. Acronis will created a hidden partition on the active drive that you are trying to back up and will allow you to back up to C: (on the hidden partition). However, I back the drive up to another drive and burn the backup to CDs also.

I ended up rebooting, then DI7 ran fine, but I have yet to try a complete restore form the *.v2i file on c:\.
Maybe it't time to look at Acronis so I don't have to deal with Symantec.
Thanks so much, again, for your time. I don't know what I'd do without this website.

Hehe, it's scary to have a backup and not sure if it works. I have had to reload the OS a couple of times in earlier years because my backup didn't work! Wow, it was a bummer too! Not too much important lost. That was when I got wise and started putting really important stuff on another drive and CDs!
I like Acronis True Image so far and I have tried restoring from an Acronis image and had no problems at all. I am happy with the program and it even will back up your drive C while you are in the Windows GUI! I was skeptical at first about this working - but it does. A backup goes pretty quickly - can't remember how long the restore takes, but seems it is no longer than a DI restore.
