Hello,

Issue: Purchased a new Vista laptop to replace and old XP desktop. Installed outlook 2003 and copied outlook.pst file into the new outlook folder. Everything got transferred: contacts, old emails, calendar. Except for the email distribution list. There are over 400 contacts and email addresses in the old list and typing them manually will take some time. Is there a way to remedy this?

I thank you for all the help in advance.

Usual way to transfer outlook is to use the export feature. You would export contacts and then import them to your new install.

One easy way. On old pc. open outlook create new email to send to yourself. click insert-->item. in look in area click contacts in item area click on distribution list you want and click OK
On new pc drag and drop list from email to contacts

On new computer setup outlook with all of the POP3 and SMTP server settings for the logged in user. This will setup the directories in their

C:\Users\*yournamehere*\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

You may have to go to the Control Panel then Folder Options then click the View Tab then uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files" so that you can view this folder.

Now go to you old computer and copy the PST files to a CD or Flash Drive into that directory on your new computer. If your old computer is XP then it will be in the

C:\documents and settings\*your name here*\Local settings\Microsoft\Outlook

Once the file is copied then you may need to tell outlook to use it if it is a different name from the default filename. To do this Click the Tools menu -> Account settings -> Darn I have Outlook 2007 um Google it.
