Comment:

For the last couple of weeks, when I listen to music/spoken word on my computer the voices of the people seem distorted. eg a woman's voice sounds like a man's and a man's voice sounds like Louis Armstrong. Tunes sound ok (cant really tell if there is distortion there) but the 'voice' is awful. What little I can do to check the computer says that the devices are working correctly. How do I check these things properly and how do I find out whether I am checking the right devices in the first place!!!

Thanks

Kara

What program are you using to play the audio and have you tried a different player?

Hi LL

Have tried Windows Media Player and Power Cinema and both sound the same. Don't know what my Internet explorer uses to play the radio but that is affected too.

Thanks

IE uses Win Media Player also. Being that the problems exists on different players I think we should look at the sound card first. What sound card are you using?

If you don't know, go to START - Run - type msinfo32.exe - click OK - in the System Info window click the (+)sign next to Componets - click Sound device - the first line is the name of your sound card.

Hi LL

I did what you said and found out it was a Realteck High Definition Audio thingy. I checked the performance and it said it was working ok, but when doing the troubleshooting it said how to find out if there were any using Windows Update. This led me on to download something from the internet and now I can listen to the radio and my cds as they should be.

Thanks for your help. A little bit of confidence with what I was doing was what I needed. so a big thank you for holding my hand to sort it out.

Thanks

Kara

Happy to hear (no pun) all is well. Just a small suggestion; in the future, if Windows Update lists a driver that is available for your system, you are better off going to the manufacturer of the given product for the driver download. Win Update sometimes makes a mistake concerning device drivers; also with some older devices, newer drivers aren't always better.
