I am in need of help with some display setting problems. I kept getting notices of "Windows Critical Updates" to be uploaded, and so I finally uploaded a ton of stuff yesterday (unfortunately, now I don't know what those updates were). Once my computer restart, my display settings are weird. The desktop icons and font are tiny, and when using programs like Word and Excel, everything is small and perceptually far away. Likewise, when I go to the Internet, websites do not fill the screen and everything is small, even though the Window is maximized (i.e. when I go to my University's email site, the login screen only takes up the top quarter or so of the webpage, and everything appears far away).

I have tried working the Display Properties tab, adjusting the resolution--which does make things bigger, but then blurry--and the DPI (right now, it's on "Large" instead of normal, which sort of helps but still doesn't solve the perceptual problem). I am a PhD student (obviously NOT in computer science!) and am constantly online researching, and I am at my wits end because it literally makes my eyes hurt to read such small stuff. Can anyone provide suggestions as to how to get everything back to the "normal" state of perception/view???? Thank you!

Sounds like you did a display adapter upgrade and it made your resolution smaller, which is becoming more the acceptable these days. It may also have changed your "color quality" setting as well. Since I have no idea where you had had it, go into Control panel, Display, Settings and change the screen resolution until it looks more like you want it to, Also set the color quality to either 16 or 32, whatever again suits you, hit apply and close out.

How about a System Restore to a date before the downloads?

Thanks for the tips...i did try the system restore but it claimed to "fail" because "no changes were made to your system"...huh???

I think i've figured out the icons/MS stuff...but any more suggestions out there about how to get back the "normal" view of a webpage (i.e. it fills the window completely, right now everything is shrunk!)

thanks
