I have been having display problems since I did a clean install of xp last week. My resolution is set at 1280x1024 which is native for my monitor and font size is 96 dpi which is also the normal setting and also what I was using. The problem is everything is very small now. I uninstalled and reinstalled the nvidia video card and monitor drivers 2 or 3 times but nothing is helping. Someone I know with the same exact comp is using the same settings I am but their screen looks normal. Web pages don't look right either. Everything is to the left and also very small. I've run out of ideas. thanks

You did not mentioned if you have installed the "video card" drivers, if not try that
to change icon sizes , check in control panel for the 'taskbar and start menu' -> start menu tab -> under start menu click 'customize' -> under general select size for icons
to increase text size in IE for web pages start IE under 'view' -> text size select your choice.
another thought is possibly your refresh rate for the monitor is wrong
in control panel -> display -> settings tab -> click advance button -> click monitor tab -> in screen refresh box change settings to suit your monitor or try starting with 60 hertz and work your way up til suits you or the monitor.
good luck! kk

thanks. Video drivers are installed and working properly according to the system but for some reason the display doesn't change when the drivers are uninstalled. IE font is set to largest and refresh rate is good. Icons are also largest. I'm at a loss here.

Just by chance...look in add/remove and see if there was an auto install of some Intell video drivers...if so remove them and uninstall the nvidia drivers and reinstall the nvidia drivers as they conflict.
also other options to try:
make sure that you are using the latest version of drivers...if still no change try installing an earlier version of the drivers.
also make sure that you have all the updates for that computer installed.

thanks. In add/remove the only intel software I found was "Intel pro network adapters and drivers". What ever that is it's not using any mb. I looked in conflicts/sharing and found most of the nvidia gforce 5200 software sharing with Intel 82865g processor to agp controller. From what I found out the intel 82865g is a graphics controller. I'm sure this is suppose to be there but I figured I'd mention it.
