Hi,

I was sitting at my PC lastnight when the display suddenly went sideways. That is, the monitor has to be turned 90 degrees onto its side in order for me to read the monitor correctly.

At the time that this error occured, I wasn't pressing any keys.

When I rebooted the machine the display is correct while the Windows XP startup motif is displayed, then the screen goes black and the mouse arrow appears sideways. From this point on all is displayed sideways.

After I rebooted the machine for the first time, I got the following error report -

"Unexpected Shutdown"

"The driver for the display was unable to complete an operation Please check with driver vendor for a driver update,

The display driver for Intel(R) 82845G Graphics contoller seems to be responable for the system instability."

Eveything else seems to be working as normal.

I went onto the Intel driver update page to get a newer driver but the following warning is displayed with the driver -

"Installs drivers for the integrated graphics controller of IntelĀ® chipsets. This is not to be used if the system has a third party graphics card."

http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=865&OSFullName=Windows*+XP+Home+Edition〈=eng&strOSs=45&submit=Go%21

Should I install this driver? I'm not sure what my Graphics card is.

AHA! I was just looking under control panel for a clue as to my Graphics card when I clicked on "Intel Extreme Graphics". Under this there was a choice to change rotation, and under this the rotation was set to 270. I've changed it to normal and the display seems OK now.

I might as well post this anyway in case someone else has a similar problem.

Cheers,

Barry.

I was also given the following watchdog report :

//

//

ctrl-alt(maybe shift) arrow key ought to rotate it.

I think it is the right hand side too. If on a domain you have to be logged in.
