I'm looking for a way in windows explorer to display files the way i want instead of the already existing ways given by windows.
Right now, we can sort by name, file type, size or date. But i want to be able to position my files manually randomly and i want windows to remember these files settings for the next time i view this particular folder.
I know that i can rename manually each and every file so it will show up the way i want alphabetically but it's a long process especially when you have several hundreds files.

The only way to position files in a specific order is by using the Thumbnail View. Outside of that it is impossible. Besides Windows has a finite number of "custom" folders that it can remember. Perhaps a third party disk management utility will fir your want.

Where do you want to go today?
Some things are not possible just because you want to do it that way. This is one case that comes to mind.
You can avoid many of these Windows problems with Linux. Linspire eases the transition for new users
