Product: Dell Pentium II
Comment:

Hi
When I watch videos on youtube, the music sound is ok and constant but the video stream is not fast and constant and is like watching snapshots every 1 second or so.

The display properties reads :- Plug and Play Monitor on ATI Technologies, Inc, 3D Rate Pro AGP (graphics card). I have fast broadband so am I right in thinking this is a display adapter problem or something else?

I have 3 spare display cards which are a Matrox 798-02 Rev_A, plus an old S3 Virge and a Cirrus Logic which are quite old.

I would like to wish everyone at computing.net a Happy New Year and thank you for your help on a continuous basis.

I look forward to hearing from you

Thanks
Danny1234

Not sure if any help, but 300 megahertz or higher processor clock speed recommended for XP Pro, and 256MB of RAM can be low for XP. Add another 512MB.

Watch for help from others.

Try viewing the videos with your desktop set to 16-bit & lower or it's probably the display adapter. You should also confirm the speed of the broadband being used with youtube which uses 500k streams.

I don't think any other video card is going to make a lot off difference. At 247 Mhz you are giving the old Pentium II a lot of work to do. Another 256 Mbs of RAM may improve matters a little but not much.

i have 3 strips of 64mb of RAM which I could add which measure 13cm in length. Would this fit the Dell Pentium II Machine?

hi
there are only 3 slots for memory in the dell workstation 400, 2 of which were used so I added 1 stick of 64mb ram but my computer is now only showing 288MB Ram ?? (I thought 264 + 64 = 328 ??

The logitech webcam has more problems since I added the 64mb of ram so I may remove it.

I'll await your comment before I remove it.

Thanks

Hi
I opened up the Dell Workstation and noticed that the display adaptor is part of the motherboard itself. There is a sepate board for adding display cards and plug & play cards but I was unable to access this because I cannot get at the screws to remove the backplates to insert the matrox display adaptor. All the machines I've come across before have had the slots on the motherboard itself.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
