Are your D & E drives separate disks or are they partitions on a single disk with your C drive?

The only time I have seen that error message it was when I connected a slave drive that had failed to boot in it's native machine to see if I could salvage the data. The scan would sometimes complete and other times not. In any event, I used a diagnostic boot disk to test the drive integrity and it failed. I was unable to complete any diagnostic test or a low level format. I didn't happen to need another paperweight so binned the thing.

You need to be prepared for the possibility (Probability) that you face imminent disk failure. Back up any data you need from those drives.
