I was surfing on my laptop the other day, for no reason it locked got the blue screen and now on reboot get "A disk read error occured. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart". It doesn't work. It doesn't restart and I can't even get the xp boot diskettes to get it going. Help!
Have I crashed and lost my hardrive? Can I get my stuff back? Can I reset something and get back to normal?

repair ..2
Start the operating system from the CD-ROM, run Setup, and then choose to repair
the previous installation. (skip the "Recovery Console" and "ASR" prompt
This feature detects the old install when you start setup of the same version, and offers
the "Repair" ("Press '1' for...." on the second screen, after pressing ENTER for setup )
You have to re-activate Windows when the repair process is finished.
You can also back up and save the Wpa.dbl file after successful activation and then manually
restore it after the repair process is finished and after you log on to the computer.

I can't even get the computer to start in another mode. I can't "enter" out or "F8" out or "F1" or just "1" out. How do I get out and boot from CDRom?

Turn the power off, if necessary.
To get a boot to the CD, At the POST screen, press F1 or DEL or F@ (these are the most common). The first screen may have a prompt to "press ?? to go to setup"
In the BIOS setup area, change the boot order to CD-Rom first. Then, press any key to boot to cd-rom should come up after the POST screen after you save and exit the BIOS. If you cannot get a boot to the CD-Rom, you will need the 6 boot floppies.
Then follow the instructions noted above.
Good luck

I got into the 6 boot floppies and now get a message saying "biosinfo.inf could not be loaded. Error code is 4114. Setup cannot continue. Press...to exit"
