My Windows XP Pro computer restarted and it came up with the message:
A Disk Read Error has Occurred
Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart.Pressing the C/A/D buttons does nothing but get back to the same point. This message occurs after the BIOS post, after it checks the floppy and CD for booting, at the point the Operating System should load.
I have tried loading the Recovery Console and using FIXMBR FIXBOOT and CHKDSK commands. Nothing seems to work. Even typing DIR on this C: drive gives the error:
The Directory failed to enumerate.
(whatever that means)I put this Maxtor 40GB drive into another computer as a slave drive, but I cannot see the contents of the drive (Windows Explorer kinda hangs when trying to view this broke drive).
I ran a data recovery program, VirtualLab, to see the contents of the drive, and I CAN see that the data is still there, But I cannot access it directly.
I made a backup about two weeks ago (GREAT!) but since then I copied the data off of another hard drive onto this one and didn't make a backup of this new data (that other hard drive has now been formatted).
So, assuming my backup is good, this copied data is what I'm really trying to get at.
