Comment:
I have an old Compaq Pressario that I have formated the drive on and am trying to load Windows XP on. It is not recognizing the CD as bootable so I am trying to use the diskettes. However, when I insert the first one it reads the disk and then says "Disk I/O error". I know the floppy drive works because thats how I formated the drive. (using a win98 boot disk and then using format c: command)Any ideas on what I can do?

Silly question, have you checked the floppy is okay on another machine?

Yes, I thougth that was the problem too, so I tested it out on another machine, and it worked fine. I also created a new set of disks to see if that worked and nothing.
Thanks,
