How can i get no red/fragmented files when i run Disk Defragmenter?
It doesn't have to be this difficult

Think of it another way .. like a library. You worked damn hard all night arranging the volumes of books where they belong in alphabetic order. Then you open the doors to the public......

No PC runs modern PC operates 100% on RAM. Anytime you do anything on your PC code is written an this has to go someplace.. this is generally to cache sectors of you HD. No way to do anything without fragmenting files. with the modern 7,500+rpm HDs there is little need to defrag as often as we once had to. modern HDs have a buffer to process info rather than scattering all over any unoccupied section of your HD. I would suggest in investing in some disk management software. There are better defragmentors available than the one windows provides.
best of luck Frank :

I now remember the name of the program I use both here at work and at home. It is called Diskeeper made by executive software .. it allows you to set schedules as to when you wish to run defrag.. my PC at home has it to run whenever it is needed and in the background. I run 1gig of memory at home and never notice it running. Here at work the network administrators have it set to run in the middle of the night sometime when i am not on on it
best of luck Frank :

Diskeeper by Executive Siftware is now Diskeeper Corp. Diskeeper is the very same company that supplies the built-in XP Defragger used by Windows XP.

Hi leonard j, Frank, XpUser, hello everyone,
I've ran into the same problem many times with defrag. On this laptop for example, after running defrag it still showed 12% fragmented. On some clients computers after doing a defrag and then running the Analyze, it would show it needed to be defragged.
Anyhow, yes it can be done. Here is the laptop mentioned above now, with No Red
.Here is the log file from the laptop.
Start defrag and run the Analyze.
When it's complete click on View Report.
Click on Save As and save the log file.
Copy and paste the log file back here.

Diskeeper works for me too, and yup got it running in the background, the fragmentation is kept under check, dont have any issues. you can defragment the paging file and MFT with it.
Here's a MS link on third party defrag tools-
