Comment:
Lately whenever I open and run disk defragmenter(sp?) it begins and then freezes stating "Program not Responding". Does anyone have any clue what is happening? Do I have a virus?

Helsa, defrag is extremely sensitive to anything disturbing a drive while it's trying to do it's thing. See if safe mode works any better and don't forget to temporarily stop any screensaver whole it's trying. HTH. Ed in Texas.

Another reason could be corrupt files, folders, or bad sectors on your hard disk. check out No7 in the following disk. http://css.its.psu.edu/news/nlsu03/winxpmaintain.html

Could also be you don't know what OS you are using? How can we help you without knowing that, when each different OS had a different defrag maker?

Helsa, unknown OS's a valid complaint. If that's purely an oversight, that's one thing, but if you are simply unaware just what you have, start>programs>accessories>system tools>system information should identify what you have for future reference. HTH. Ed in Texas.
