Here's a weird thing I read. Do you think it could happen for real? I myself have never had this problem. Just wanted to know what the big guns here think of this.
Quote: can some one help me? i am running two hard disks on our computer, one mainly for putting my games installers, music, drivers, pictures etc, you get the point. it was running low on space and without really checking i let disk cleanup do its thing. now my music is gone, all my backups are gone, zipped files, just about everything. I've tried using the system restore, but i can't get every thing back. Can some one please help!! : end quote.

I think he hit format myself. But has anyone had this problem with disk cleanup before and what did you do to resolve it?
Thanks,
Setishock

A lot of those files may not have been accessed frequently, and Disk Cleanup could have done its file compression thing on them, but don't think it would have removed them. Can't remember hearing of file loss to Disk Cleanup.

XP Disk Cleanup seems to be capable of doing more than just compressing files to save space. According to this link, Disk Cleanup also:

· Remove temporary Internet files.
· Remove downloaded program files. For example, ActiveX controls and Java applets that are downloaded from the Internet.
· Empty the Recycle Bin.
· Remove Windows temporary files.
· Remove optional Windows components that you are not using.
· Remove installed programs that you no longer use.

The thing is it does not do it on its own. It requires user interaction which is probably what he did that caused him to lose just about everything. Or out of embarrasment he's covering up what he did - format the HD.

Don't think I was ever aware of the last two options you posted. I seldom use the program except for cutting back on SysRestore. Have Super Cleaner and CCleaner which I much prefer (especially since I use FF primarily).

Thanks for your responces. I figured he did something not too smart. Any way I asked him for data on his drive and got a jaw dropping responce. It's a 2.37 gig drive. Now either it's a laptop drive adapted to a desk system or it's older than dirt. Just the same for his troubles he lost his math homework due Monday. Guess what he's gonna be doing over the week end. LOL
