Karl, When you say it doesn't work what do you mean? Is it just freezing up on the compressed files part?

Karl, Go to the link below and scroll down to 48 and you'll see the "Disk Cleanup - Compress Old Files Freezes" Fix in the right column, download it and run it which should correct your problem.
Just click on the words "Disk Cleanup-Compress Old Files Freezes" not the underscored word "Undo".
"To use the Regedits: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it and answer yes to the import prompt.

OK, I'm going to try iy, too, since my system also seems to hang at that same spot. I'll report back after it's done.

And thanks!

A positive attitude won't solve all your problems, but it will annoy just enough people to be worth the effort.

OR:

Run Regedit: Click on My Computer (at the top of the hives) Do a search (press CTRL+F to do this) for:

Compress Old

And delete the offending key once it pops up.

That stops Disk Cleanup for scanning to compress old files and so it [shouldnt] hang up from now on.

There is one subtle yet vital difference between opinion and fact; and the bigger man is he who can whole-heartedly admit this.
