I have heard rumours that Disk Cleanup contains a 'bug' - something to do with Compressed Files - causing it to 'hang'.Does anyone know if this is true?
Lesley

dont know why but it hangs on one disk with compressed files, that is the files and settings transfer folder, apart from that no problemmo

I have exactly the problem that Lesley mentions.
Disk Cleanup always shows this popup when I run it, and goes no further:
"Disk cleanup is calculating how much space you will be able to free on c:. This may take a few minutes to complete.
Calculating.... (3 green bars, about one-eighth of length)
Scanning: compress old files"And it just hangs there forever.
If I look in taskmanager, cleanmgr.exe is doing 94-98 of CPU;
I don't know anything about compressed files, I've never compressed any, and I only have the one c: disk/drive. In the meantime, assuming disk cleanup is deleting things like temporary internet folders (?), I learned to do that manually because my computer was "not responding" when I chose "delete files" in Internet Options. So maybe I have compounded problems. But now that I read what Lesley wrote, I'm going to forget about disk cleanup, delete what I can manually, and then try defrag (which I've never done since I got this XP machine).
